After growing-up in the Midwest and a rewarding but busy east coast career, I’ve relocated to Tubac and opened Viola Jo Studio. It is my studio, and a resource for others. I’ve made handmade jewelry for almost 20 years and painted occasionally. I also do Kumihimo braiding using a variety of different fibers. With the precious gift of extra time, I’ve explored many jewelry and textile techniques including polymer and metal clay, wire wrapping, cold connections, enameling, resin, concrete, metal smithing, glass blowing, CAD, fabric surface design, screen printing, shibori, embroidery, weaving, paper sculpting, felting, and loom knitting. I like to explore and invite others to join!
My main goal is to be creative rather than to develop a set line of jewelry. I create simple designs ideal for the workplace, casual weekend wear, as well as bold, statement pieces. In addition to a range of natural stones, I use chain, swarovski crystals, and vintage glass.
My latest obsession is with fibers and textiles. I’ve been practicing Kumihimo – traditional Japanese braiding – and combining different fibers, sometimes with crystals or natural stones.
My jewelry is available for sale on my etsy shop and at the shop in Tubac, AZ. I welcome custom orders! The shop is after my mom Vi.
